Katherine Legge

(born July 12, 1980) is a British car racer, currently living in Atlanta, Ga. She is also the female driver ambassador to the Women in Motorsport Commission of the FiA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile). She currently races full-time for the Gradient Racing Team in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and part time in the IndyCar Series for Dale Coyne racing. From 2017-2019 she raced a factory backed Acura NSX with Michael Shank Racing, winning numerous races and finishing runner-up in the 2018 season. From 2013 to 2016, she raced the famed DeltaWing car in the United Sports Car Championship.  In 2012, 2013, 2023 and 2024 she raced in the Indy 500. In 2023, she set the record for the fastest qualifying effort for a woman in Indy 500 history. From 2008-2010 she raced in Europe in the DTM series for Audi. In 2006 and 2007 she raced in Champ Car, becoming the first woman to lead a lap in Champ Car series history when she led 12 laps at Milwaukee. In 2005, Katherine competed in the Toyota Atlantic Championship, winning the series opener at Long Beach in her first career Toyota Atlantic start and becoming the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in North America. She received the Toyota Atlantic BBS Rising Star 2005 Award and the 2005 RACER Magazine “Most Promising Road Racer of The Year” Award. In 2005, Katherine became one of the few women to ever test a Formula One car and also became the first woman to test an A1 Grand Prix car. In 2001, she beat Kimi Räikkönen’s lap record and was the first woman to receive the BRDC’s “Rising Star” accolade.
